Egyptology in Basel distinguishes itself in the fields of cultural history and archaeology as well as linguistics and textual studies. Research focuses on archaeology (Valley of the Kings, Theban necropolis, Deir el-Medina), religion (funerary rites and grave furnishings, personal piety, rituals, funerary texts), history (social history, cultural contacts), writing and iconography.
