Sustainable Development
Excellence in Sustainability:
Contributing to sustainable development is a contemporary challenge that must be approached in an interdisciplinary manner. Thus, the MSD draws on concerns of sustainability that are connected to the natural, social and economic sciences. Methodological aspects of the curriculum include the analytical and integrative skills and knowledge necessary to deal with complex questions relevant to sustainability. Considerable importance is placed on competences to work in interdisciplinary and research-based settings.
Students from all degree programs of the University of Basel (from 3d bachelor's semester on) may participate in the Transfaculty Cross Section Program Sustainable Development (TQNE). Students are introduced to sustainable development in four different courses. They acquire the ability to distinguish a variety of natural, social and economic aspects of sustainability. The participants learn to recognize interactions between these aspects and to reflect critically on themselves.
