The Swiss Finance Institute (SFI) is the national competence center for basic research, doctoral training, knowledge exchange and continuing education in banking and finance. It promotes the scientific expertise of the Swiss financial marketplace and is supported by the local banking sector.
With the University of Basel, another Swiss teaching and research institution has joined the SFI. The Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Basel has a particular focus on researching topics related to fintech, digital banking, innovative finance, and financial market regulation. This makes the University of Basel a great addition and expansion to the current research group.
“Our PhD students in finance will benefit from the SFI’s network,” says Professor Pascal Gantenbein, Professor of Financial Management at the University of Basel. Professor Angelo Ranaldo, designated Professor of Finance and Financial Economics, adds: “This partnership represents a significant milestone and will allow us to profoundly improve our research capabilities.”
The SFI and the University of Basel plan to launch their collaboration at the beginning of 2024, while professors from the University of Basel will become active members of the SFI’s academic network.
“The SFI actively promotes world-class research and teaching in banking and finance in Switzerland by bringing together the brightest academic minds from its partner universities. We are delighted that the University of Basel has now joined this circle. The academic insights gained will flow into practice-oriented training courses, publications, and public events at SFI and thus also influence the way key players in the financial sector think and act,” comments Professor François Degeorge, Managing Director of the SFI.
