Find a Postdoc-Position
After completing your dissertation, as a postdoc you are interested in deepening your research profile at a university or research institution – possibly abroad. A postdoc is essentially a temporary professional position. It is also expected that you proactively and independently seek out external funding. It is important to find suitable funding.
Ideally, you spend your postdoc period abroad to demonstrate your ability to get along in a foreign culture. As a postdoc, you work more or less independently. You are the person who contributes new ideas and methods to your research group. If you exhibit solid past achievements and have your own fellowship (for example, from the Swiss National Science Foundation), you are welcome to be part of the world’s top research groups. Because you can focus entirely on research, you will find yourself in what will most likely be the most productive phase of your own research. Your next career move might be to take on an assistant professorship.
