Coordination Office for Refugees

Have you been forced to flee your homeland? are you interested in studying at the University of Basel or already matriculated at the University of Basel?

If you are interested in studying at the University of Basel, then you need to contact the Coordination Office for Refugees. In our initial, non-binding consultation, we will clarify whether you fulfill the admission requirements and/ or which additional requirements (if any) you still need to fulfill to matriculate at the University of Basel. If studying is not an option, we will help you to find the source of information you need.
 

The Coordination Office provides refugees who are interested in studying or already matriculated with support in the following areas:

  • Finances, budgeting
  • Day-to-day questions
  • Accommodation
  • Correspondence with various official bodies (e.g. Immigration Office, social security)
  • Counseling
  • Networking/ triage with internal offices at the University of Basel and external offices in the Basel region

Bridging program for Refugees

People from a refugee background who fulfill the admission requirements of the University of Basel can complete a maximum of two trial semesters.

This includes:

  • attending a maximum of three courses with no tuition fees
  • an intensive language course before the semester begins, followed by a weekly language course
  • access to Unisport's wide range of offerings
  • personal support from experienced students (mentoring program)

exchange with students and other refugees at the University of Basel

Participants in the program cannot take part in assessments or earn credit points/a degree. Their status is equivalent to that of a course auditor (without a student ID); this is free of charge.

Participants in the bridging program cannot attend courses at the Faculty of Medicine.

Conditions for participating in the program:

  • Resident in the Basel region
  • Good knowledge of the language of instruction (B1 German and/ or B2 English)
  • Secondary or high school leaving certificate that qualifies a person for university studies
