Zaeslin Guest House
On 29 March 2019, the University of Basel celebrated the start of construction of a new guesthouse with the laying of the foundation stone. Thanks to the generous donation of millions by patron Hans Heiner Zaeslin, the new guesthouse could be built. The opening was celebrated on small-scale end of September 2020.
From October 2020, the University of Basel will be able to accommodate 56 researchers from abroad in its new guest house at Nonnenweg. The four-story building with an attic floor comprises twelve apartments (11+1), which will be temporarily made available by the "Stiftung Gästehaus der Universität Basel". The University of Basel can only realize the new guest house thanks to the patron Hans Heiner Zaeslin. The six million Swiss francs provided by Hans Heiner Zaeslin fully covered the costs for the purchase of the land and the new building.
"We are pleased to be able to supplement our range of apartments for researchers with this new building," stresses Tom Koechlin, President of the Guest House Foundation. The Foundation already operates guest houses in Basel with a total of 24 apartments at Hebelstrasse 90, Herbergsgasse 1 and Peter Merian-Strasse 40.
