08 September 2015
The University of Basel is celebrating its 555th anniversary with a long night of science. The evening will be devoted to research, science and the university. The University Night is open to all and free of charge. A free shuttle provided by BVB will connect the main event sites Kollegienhaus, Botanical Garden, University Library and Pharmazentrum.
Science and research live
Starting at 6 pm until midnight, the program offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the research and teaching currently done at the University of Basel and to experience research live through guided tours, experiments, lectures, games, tests and much more. Movies, dance, theater and music round off the night's program. Food and beverages are available and the court yard of the Main Building (Kollegienhaus) invites visitors to end their night in a relaxing atmosphere.
The event also offers a lot for the little ones: among many other activities, kids can dig for treasures in the Botanical Garden, perform magic tricks with colors, look at fish through the microscope or explore the dark archives of the University Library with flashlights. Activities suited for kids and families are specifically highlighted in the program.
An updated and detailed program of the University Night can also be found online. Here visitors can put together their personal itinerary for the night and access the program on their smart phones or tablets.
90s after party at Gare du Nord
After all that science let's not forget to celebrate as well! Following the University Night, the skuba has organized an after party at Gare du Nord. Starting at 10 pm until 4 am two DJs will play the hits of the 90s. Tickets can be purchased in advance at dinx shop (Kornhausgasse 2) or at the box office.
