60.2 GWh of energy and 249.5 million liters of water were required last year to provide for the roughly 12,900 students and PhD students as well as about 6,000 staff in over 80 buildings. With regard to operational sustainability management, the University of Basel has made great progress in recent years. The university’s first photovoltaic system, on the roof of the Center for Pharmaceutical Sciences, was put into operation in 2021. The waste monitoring system was expanded and over half of the food service offerings were vegetarian and vegan. Since August 2022, the university’s non-current financial assets have been managed with attention to concrete sustainability criteria.
