Educational Development

The students of the University of Basel deserve the best possible learning experience to develop their academic potential and to contribute to the shaping of society. To this end, the Department of Educational Development supports the professionalization of the teaching staff according to international standards, the development of contemporary assessments and examinations, and the establishment of a good feedback culture in the area of learning and teaching.

Assessments and Examinations

Since 2020, a university-wide project on quality assurance and development of assessments and examinations has been running at the University of Basel. In this context the University of Basel implemented university-wide quality criteria for assessments and examinations as a basis for the evaluation of assessments and examinations, as well as standards for the regular evaluation of assessments and examinations at the University of Basel. Pilot projects are underway in all faculties to develop questionnaires for the evaluation of assessments and examinations. Developing as a Teacher in Higher Education

Members of the University of Basel have the opportunity to earn three certificates with different focal points. At the heart of these three training programs is the interaction between students and teachers:

Certificate in Higher Education Practice 'Learning, Teaching, and Assessing'

Teaching Excellence Awards

Every two years, the Department of Educational Development organizes the presentation of Teaching Excellence Awards in five different award categories. The next Teaching Excellence Awards will be presented in 2025.
