Open House Day at the Biozentrum
The Biozentrum of the University of Basel cordially invites interested visitors on 17 September 2022 to immerse themselves in the world of research and to visit the new, state-of-the-art research tower. They can expect an exciting program with a research market, lectures and a view over the rooftops of Basel.

Isolate your own DNA at the research market, discover the fascinating world of light microscopy, see what happens in our brain when we move, or learn how crystals can be used to find new antibiotics. At more than 20 booths, the scientists of the Biozentrum will take you into the fascinating world of their daily work. Many offers are interactive - become a researcher yourself.
You can also take a look behind the scenes and see how special equipment for research is developed in the mechanical and electronic workshops, join us on a tour to our high-tech NMR and AFM equipment, or enjoy a glimpse into our state-of-the-art research laboratories on the 14th floor, as well as the view over the rooftops of the city.
Short lectures “Forschende im Gespräch”
In an entertaining and personal way, scientists will also present short, easy-to-understand introductions to their research topics. In 15-minute talks, they shed light on questions such as how to find ways out of the antibiotic crisis, how neuronal circuits create memories and allow us to navigate the world, what medicine can learn from bacterial viruses, or what makes muscles strong or weak. Most of the lectures are in German, some in English.
New Biozentrum building
Let yourself be impressed by the architecturally exciting entrance hall and its contrast to the functional layout of the laboratory tower featuring a most modern infrastructure. In addition, one of the architects and the person responsible for construction projects at the Biozentrum will give you an insight into what makes cutting-edge research so highly complex in terms of architecture.
Food and drink
Enjoy the varied offerings of the Kaffi Biozentrum and Bacell’s restaurant. There will also be a tempting homemade ice cream made with liquid nitrogen.
