Within Eucor, Uni Basel coordinates the focus area personalized health / precision medicine. By fostering and establishing collaborations between French, German and Swiss universities or university clinics, this initiative also aims at developing standards for data-driven health research across political borders.

PHB supports the establishment and implementation of clinical and translational data interface/integration (data sharing platform) across borders strengthening Uni Basel and the Upper Rhine region as leading centres in the field of personalized health and health-related data research.

CLINNOVA is a quadrinational research infrastructure project in the Upper Rhine region (CH, F, D, LU) with the task of supporting the digitalization of healthcare and precision medicine. The initiative brings together renowned organizations that have been working together in a spirit of trust for a long time and have already made significant contributions to personalized health. The overarching goal is to improve research into chronic and common autoimmune diseases and to develop more effective and personalized treatment options. CLINNOVA focuses on three autoimmune diseases, multiple sclerosis (MS), rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

CLINNOVA's mission is to support the digitalization of healthcare and precision medicine by creating a data-driven environment for accessing, sharing and analyzing interoperable, high-quality healthcare data.

The overall objectives of CLINNOVA are to build:

  • A network of multidisciplinary translational research centers focused on chronic inflammatory autoimmune diseases.
  • Prospective patient cohorts and a centralized biobanking strategy that enables standardized collection and processing of biological samples across the different institutions.
  • A platform for innovation in the field of digital health based on interoperable data infrastructures set up in the various institutions.
  • A federated platform for AI that enables algorithms to be trained on a large amount of multidimensional data across borders in a secure, interoperable and transparent way, thus developing personalized therapy solutions for patients.

In a unique approach, CLINNOVA makes digital health data available for research and creates significant added value for university research, industry and society by networking, utilizing and analyzing it using artificial intelligence. CLINNOVA ultimately makes a direct contribution to sustainably improving the health of citizens and patients.
