We recommend getting an early start on your housing search. Setting up free search notifications is very useful tool. This way, you receive a daily selection of new offers, and you can also quickly develop a feel for prices, dates and locations.

Persons keen into staying longer in the area or interested in alternative types of housing (e.g. cooperative flats "Genossenschaftswohnungen" or community projects) should screen the Wohnportal (usually waiting lists).

Important: The University of Basel’s Unimarkt is also a good place to find interesting housing options! You can also post an advert for free. However, it is a public website incl. offers also from a wider public.

Hint: Do not proceed if there is a) no flat visit possible AND b) no contract presented! The following phenomenons could be indicators:

• Always visit the flat/studio before signing the contract.
• Never transfer money before signing a flat contract
• Persons living abroad, promising to send the flat key once the payment is done, are scammers. 
• Be also mistrustful in the following case: If the price is very attractive / if the payment is requested via other than a local, Swiss bank / do not rely on sent ID- or passport scans, aiming to gain your trust / do not send your documents as copies as your documents might get abused for other scams.
