The University of Basel is launching a new teaching award in five categories. Students and teachers are asked to nominate candidates for the Teaching Excellence Awards 2016.

In order to reward good teaching and to raise awareness for its worth, the University of Basel launches a new teaching prize that is awarded in five categories this spring. The Teaching Excellence Awards recognize not only excellent courses, but also individuals that inspire students and have rendered outstanding services to the field of teaching.
The diversification of the awards into five teaching categories reflects the wide range of good teaching in all its variety.
Nominating is easy
Starting today and up to April 15, nominations for the Teaching Excellence Awards can be submitted under www.unibas.ch/tea.
Five award categories
Students of all fields can suggest inspiring courses and individuals for an award in one of the five different categories. In someselected categories, teachers and other people involved in teaching are also allowed to nominate their favorites.
The five categories are:
- Modern Scholarship: The “Credit Suisse Award for Best Teaching” honors teachers that inspire students
- Service to teaching: decorates individuals that work for effective teaching from the background
- Up-to-Date: accentuates courses that open up an access to current research topics
- Treading new paths: rewards “breakers of dogmas” that use new forms of interaction and teaching.
- Strong foundations: honors the “Best Basic Lecture” that lays a good foundation for higher semesters

The award ceremony of the Teaching Excellence Awards will take place on 23 May 2016 in the Kollegienhaus.
