Idea: switching perspectives for girls and boy
The concept of 'Future Day' is to provide students in Years 5 to 7 with the chance to gain insight into the world of work. This is an annual event which sees hundreds of companies and institutions opening their doors to students.
One idea that has been proposed is to have different activities for girls and boys. A key objective is to encourage students to consider alternative career paths. It is recommended that children and young people should not be constrained by gender stereotypes when making career choices, but should instead focus on their own interests and abilities. This should increase the likelihood of a successful professional life.
On National Future Day, boys and girls accompany a parent or caregiver who works in a "gender-atypical" occupational field for one day.
The next future day will take place at the November 14, 2024. For more information about this day, please visit the official National Future Day website.
Participation at the University of Basel
In principle, all young people in the 5th to 7th grade grade can participate in the Future Day at the University of Basel. However, the cantons regulate participation in the Future Day differently. Here you can find an overview of participation regulations .
To participate in the Future Day, a request must be made to the school. In many schools, the Future Day is already part of the fixed annual program; some schools require their students to apply for a dispensation (see “Vorlagen”).
The University of Basel offers children of all university members the opportunity to participate in the basic Future Day program. In this program, the young people accompany their companion for a day at work or study. Participation in the basic program does not require central registration, but only internal coordination with the supervisor or lecturers.
Furthermore, the University of Basel offers a range of programs for children to enroll in, providing comprehensive exposure to various subject areas across its multiple faculties. Please note that the registration deadline for these programs is October 31, 2024. Due to the limited number of participants permitted for each program, early registration is recommended.
