University at the Markets

A woman in a blue jacket speaks to a young girl at an outdoor event. They stand near a table with brochures under a tent from the University of Basel. A crowd of people is visible in the background, along with market stalls.

Between September and November each year, researchers from the University of Basel present their projects at the autumn markets in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. In 2024, the market stand will be all about research into antibiotics – and about the very special role that the University of Basel is playing in this field.

The growing resistance to traditional antibiotics is a major concern for both experts and the general public. It's difficult to fathom the potential consequences if bacterial infections become untreatable with antibiotics in the future. With the development of new antibiotics slowing down, many areas of modern medicine are at risk of losing their most effective tools.
