University at the Markets
Between September and November each year, researchers from the University of Basel present their projects at the autumn markets in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. In 2024, the market stand will be all about research into antibiotics – and about the very special role that the University of Basel is playing in this field.
The growing resistance to traditional antibiotics is a major concern for both experts and the general public. It's difficult to fathom the potential consequences if bacterial infections become untreatable with antibiotics in the future. With the development of new antibiotics slowing down, many areas of modern medicine are at risk of losing their most effective tools.
Five years ago, the Swiss National Science Foundation awarded the University of Basel the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) "AntiResist." The center's task is to establish scientific cooperation and research in the field of antibiotic resistance, as well as to initiate networking with other universities and industry partners, positioning itself as a leading competence center.
At the University of Basel’s market stand, visitors can learn firsthand from our researchers about the solutions they are pursuing in the fight against antibiotic resistance.
