Horizon Europe Funding Opportunities for Researchers based in Switzerland
Despite the current non-association to Horizon Europe, Swiss researchers are still eligible to apply to many funding schemes, in particular the collaborative projects addressing global challenges.
Topics for the 2023 and 2024 Calls from Pillar II have been published and the European Commission organized subject specific information and networking days. A large majority of the deadlines are coming up in March and April, with others following in autumn 2023 and spring 2024. Swiss research groups can participant in these collaborative projects and will be financed by the Swiss government, under the non-associated status.
The Euresearch network offers specific information, advice and support and offers free proposal reviews under certain conditions. Please contact the Grants Office for any further information, if you are involved in a proposal for a Horizon Europe project.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)
You can also participate in Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Calls for doctoral networks and host post-docs via a Global Fellowship. Euresearch is organizing two events to tell you more about these schemes:

EIC Pathfinder Open, deadline 7 March
- Support of projects in any field of science and technology (bottom-up)
- Projects on exploration of bold ideas for radically new and visionary technologies at low Technology Readiness Levels (TRL 1-4)
EIC Transition Open, deadline 12 April
- Support of projects in any field of science and technology (bottom-up)
- Innovation activities going beyond the experimental proof of principle to validate a novel technology and develop market readiness (starting TRL 4 and reaching TRL 5-6)
- Proposed activities must build on results achieved in certain EU funded projects (please contact us for eligibility details!)
EIC Transition Challenges, deadline 12 April
- Topic 1: Full scale Micro-Nano-Bio devices for medical and medical research applications
- Topic 2: Environmental intelligence
- Topic 3: Chip-scale optical frequency combs
- Proposed activities must be based on results achieved in previous Horizon 2020 or Horizon Europe projects with TRL up to 4 (please contact us for eligiblity details!)
Public consultation
And finally, the European Commission has launched a public consultation on the past, present and future of the EU Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation in 2014-2017.
The consultation is comprised of three elements:
- The final evaluation of Horizon 2020 (2014-2020)
- The interim evaluation of Horizon Europe (2021-2027)
- The design of the second Horizon Europe Strategic Plan (2025-2027)
Past and present EU project participants can give their feedback on the individual sections until 23 February.
