Der Schweizerische Nationalfonds hat der Universität Basel drei neue Förderungsprofessuren zugesprochen. Zwei Forscher und eine Forscherin haben sich für die Universität Basel als Gastinstitution entschieden und werden ihre Professur am Departement Biomedizin sowie an der Fakultät für Psychologie aufnehmen.
Die Archäologin Dr. Monika Baumanová untersucht, wie sich urbaner Raum in Afrika zwischen dem 14. und 20. Jahrhundert entwickelt hat. Vor allem das Wechselspiel zwischen räumlichem und sozialem Wandel interessiert die Wissenschaftlerin, die zurzeit am Zentrum für Afrikastudien der Universität Basel forscht.
Das Rektorat hat Prof. Sebastian Gluth zum neuen Assistenzprofessor für Decision Neuroscience ernannt. Neuer Assistenzprofessor für Zoologie wird Prof. Patrick Tschopp. Die beiden Assistenzprofessuren sind auf fünf Jahre befristet.
Der ehemalige Basler Strafgerichts-Präsident Dr. Jeremy Stephenson wird neuer Integritätsbeauftragter der Universität Basel. Als Nachfolger für den zurückgetretenen Dr. Eugen Fischer hat er seine vierjährige Amtszeit Anfang Jahr angetreten.
Prof. Marcel Tanner, Professor für Epidemiologie und medizinische Parasitologie der Universität Basel sowie ehemalige Direktor des Schweizerischen Tropen- und Public Health-Instituts, präsidiert seit Anfang Januar 2016 die Akademie der Naturwissenschaften (SCNAT).
